Our Mission: To promote plein air painting in the State of Washington by providing painting, learning, and exhibiting opportunities.

  • April Letter

It was so nice to spend two days at St. Edwards last weekend. Every time I’m outside painting I think, “I have to do more of this.” But life sure gets in the way, doesn’t it? I hope you’re all finding time to paint outside of our planned events. If you’re going out and would like some company, why not use the roster we sent in January to find PAWA members in your area?

Our next event is a special one: The Anacortes Garden Art Fair on May 4 and 5. This is an opportunity both to paint and to show your work. PAWA will have a small area inside the Anacortes Depot to display paintings among other garden artists. Each artist coming to paint may bring one painting when they check in with our Paint-out Facilitators, Sharon Curran and Sharon Denis. There will be a sign up sheet for staffing help at check-in. Each participant will be asked to share the responsibility of managing our space for a couple hours. The remainder of the time you will be free to paint the beautiful garden displays outside of the building, or elsewhere in Anacortes. The ping invitation with all the details should be coming your way very soon.

Two weeks later we’ll have a more traditional paint-out at beautiful Deception Pass State on May 18 and 19. There is so much to paint there, you may want to be there both days. If you’re traveling from a distance, there is a campground at Deception Pass as well as an assortment of hotels/motels in Oak Harbor and Anacortes. June has us travelling to more distant parts of the state – Walla Walla and Winthrop/Twisp. We’re in the process of putting together complete information for these and will post them on the website as soon as they are available.

Once again this year we will be painting in the San Juan’s in preparation for our show at the San Juan Preservation Trust Summer Social on July 28. And hot on the heels of that show, we’ll have an opportunity to demonstrate and display our paintings at the Anacortes Art Fair the first Friday, Saturday and Sunday of August.

We’re always open to ideas for new places to paint. If you have a favorite, please let us know. And now, because it’s simply too beautiful of a day to sit inside typing a letter, I’m going outside to paint!

Hope to see you out painting soon.
