Our Mission: To promote plein air painting in the State of Washington by providing painting, learning, and exhibiting opportunities.

  • October President Letter

With one paint-out left on our calendar, we’re coming to the close of a very busy year. The Lake Quinault paint out this week is our last outdoor event. And while it may seem iffy to go to a rainforest in October, we’re assured that it doesn’t always rain there. As of this writing there are still a few sofas left at Jan’s house as well as several lodging options down the road. Please let her know as soon as possible if you can come.

While at Lake Quinault the Board will meet to plan next year’s paint-out schedule. Our focus will be on painting the State Parks, but we will continue to provide a variety of experiences near and far. If you have suggestions for a specific location, or would like to host a paint-out in your area, please let me know by this Thursday.

Did you receive the emails from Jane Wallis about our 2012 book? The November 15 deadline is fast approaching. Our first two books have been a great success and we look forward to another example of the tremendous talent among our members. Because the show being planned for the American Art Company in November will require some large studio pieces, we encourage you to share your studio paintings in this book along with your plein air favorites.

I’ve received a few paintings of State Parks so far, but I would love to receive more to post on our blog. Please send them to me at any time during the year and be sure to let me know what State Park they are from. And incidentally, did you know our new website is already a huge success. We’ve had over 21,000 visits in the past eight months!

Saturday, December 8 is the date for our annual holiday paint-in at Edmonds Artworks. We’ll have a brief meeting during lunch where we’ll share the schedule for 2013 and fill you in on as much information as we can about the State Parks and other possible shows. Here’s the plan of events for Artworks:

10:00 – 12:30 Paint Still Life set ups

    12:30 – 1:15 Potluck Lunch and Meeting

1:15 – 1:30 Painting Exchange – bring a small painting, unwrapped and unframed

1:30 – 4:00 Paint from Model or Still Life

Come for all or part of the day. Assistance with set up and clean up is much appreciated, please let me know if you can help with either or both. Hope to see you there!
